When projecting to perform some renovations on cabinetry, planning to perform a complete overhaul by buying new and more expensive cabinets will end up costing you an arm or a leg. There is a way, however, to give your cabinets a good as new look without having to burn a hole in your wallet; refacing them. Refacing cabinets consists of taking out all the parts such as shelves, doors, hinges…etc…etc… and replacing them with newer, improved parts, leaving the cabinet’s base untouched. This way, you’ll only be spending money on the visible parts of the cabinet, which drastically reduces all of your expenses.
Refacing your cabinets is a process which doesn’t require much skill or knowledge… just the ability to follow some instructions; nowadays, with the proper tools, it’s more than easy to take out various parts of the cabinet and to replace them with newer ones. This process might end up costing you somewhere around 2,000$, which is a lot less than the minimum required to buy a new set of decent cabinets (around 10,000$).
You’ll be glad to know that most of cabinet parts are actually sold separately, and can be obtained crafted from a plethora of materials (ranging from plastic to crystal) and designs (traditional, Victorian, contemporary… etc… etc…). Now, even though refacing cabinets can be a very cheap process and thus give off the impression that the materials are of low-quality, I assure you that you’ll only be getting what you’re paying for, meaning that in order to get something of higher quality, you need to be ready to fork over the cash.
