When seeking to renew and refresh the kitchen, many people simply do not know where to begin with all the renovation options open to them. One of the most cost-effective ways to spruce up your cabinets a notch is to change the cabinet hardware, such as pulls, knobs, hinges… etc… etc… In order for you to be able to make the right choice, you need to understand what materials are available out there and be able to pick out the one which will fit your cabinets. There obviously is no way for me to cover all of the materials available, but I will give some information regarding a few of them.
The first material I’d like to overview is wood. Very commonly used in furniture construction today, it comes in many very different variants such as oak, maple, mahogany, cherry hardwood… etc… etc… Except for the lower end types of woods, most of the sorts available are not only classy and stylish, but also offer more than adequate protection against deterrents. Wood is also extremely easy to sand, paint, and refinish, making it a natural choice for those people who like customizing their furniture.
The second material I’d like to bring into the spotlight is pewter. Pewter is one of those materials which is easy to work, and it’s soft enough so that very specific and detailed designs may be carved on them. It’s also proven itself to be very reliable and sturdy, being able to last many, many years in excellent condition. Pewter hardware usually comes in a dull gray finish, but is very easy to repaint and thus, stylize.
The third material is a bit more expensive than the other two, but with good reason. This material I’m referring to is chrome, and it consists of sparkling silver finish (the level of glossiness can vary), as well as offers incomparable protection from hazards such as chips, scratches, bumps, water, and heat. While it does come at a higher price, it’s one of those universal materials, which can be inserted into pretty much any setting without disrupting it.
